When summer is just a short time away, it's time to start looking for trendy summer dresses.

The thing about trends is that they don't last for long. Trends, fads or whatever you want to call them, they're often fleeting and change from season to season. So, when shopping for summer dresses, you might want to keep an eye out for something that looks modern and hip, but not too trendy. That way, you can get more than one summer's wear out of the piece.

Unfortunately, when it comes to trends, age does make a difference, ladies. If you're young, you don't want to buy a beautiful dress that ages you, and if you're a bit older, you don't want to buy something that looks like you're trying too hard to look young. For those under 30, almost any trend goes. You're at an age where you can wear just about any trend or fad of the moment and still look great as well as age appropriate. For dresses, you can go as short or as long as you like and still look like you're dressing your age. The only advice here is if you're under the age of 25, stay away from any type of dresses with writing or messages. This type of clothing should be reserved for the very young tween and teen sets.

This is where ladies need to be careful with trends. When you're over the age of 30, some fads just aren't made with you in mind. Stay away from dresses that are super short (no micro minis) and definitely choose the best dress for your body shape. For instance, if you're shorter, those long, full length dresses will only work to make you look even shorter.

When shopping for dresses, look for a summer dress that hits you mid-calf at or above the knee. If you do find that beautiful summer dress that's all the rage right now and it's too long, go get it tailored to the perfect length. When you tailor clothes, they look and feel like they were made to fit your body, not like you're trying to make your body fit your clothes.

One of the main reasons to shop trendy dresses carefully is that it can make you look older when you try to dress too young...and nobody wants that!

Most department stores like Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, American Eagle, Aeropostale and the like have a ton of summer dresses in the latest trends and at reasonable prices, too! • Nordstrom – Another department store that has a ton of summer dresses to choose from.
• Itz 4 Real – This online store has a great selection of fun and cute summer dresses at super reasonable prices. Most of the dresses are priced at under $20.

Finally, don't feel as though you have to be a slave to trends. Instead, buy the summer dresses you love and that look fantastic for your age and body type. If they're trendy, then great! If they aren't, however, that's great, too - what really matters is how you feel in your dress.
