Madonna 80s Style Belt
The most infamous Madonna 80s style belt is, of course, her "Boy Toy" one, but there were so many different styles this pop icon wore during this decade.
Madonna's 1980s Style
There probably few other celebrities on the planet that have been asked "What are you wearing?" more times than Madonna. The undisputed queen of reinventing herself stylistically, Madonna had so many different looks during this decade, and most of them can be described by her music. Anyone that grew up in the 80s will automatically know and be able to picture the following Madonna looks of the 80s:
- The Like a Virgin - Her hair was still dark and super curly. This look is where she wore her iconic "Boy Toy" belt.
- The Borderline - Madonna dyed her hair blond and accessorized it with a red bandana.
- The Desperately Seeking Susan - Who can forget the black corset with men's pants look? Couple that with dishwater blonde hair, rubber brand jelly bracelets and layers of necklaces and you have one, complete Madonna look.
- The Material Girl - Channeling Marilyn Monroe.
- The Like a Prayer - Madonna dyed her dishwater blonde hair to dark brunette and got those crazy, frizzy curls under control for this controversial music video.
For all the incarnations of Madonna, there are two iconic belts she wore: Borderline belts, the "Boy Toy" belt.
The Borderline Belts
The belts Madonna wore in this video:
- The man belt
- The leather belt with metal studs
Madonna also wore the iconic "Boy Toy" briefly during the Borderline video, but it was more prominent in her Like a Virgin look.
The Man Belt
This masculine belt made various appearances in Madonna's outfits a few times throughout the 1980s. This belt is wider than your average men's belt at about an inch and a half to two inches. The plain belt had a gold buckle and was worn high on the black high-waisted pants she wore in the beginning of the video.
The Leather Belt
About half way through the Borderline video, Madonna has on a skinny leather belt with metal studs worn over a long tank tank tops. This is a look that is actually making its way back into the trendy fashion fold.
The "Boy Toy" Belt
If you are going for a total look and need to top it off with a Madonna 80s style belt, the "Boy Toy" belt is the one to go with. This leather belt with a rectangular metal buckle reading "Boy Toy" is one of the most recognizable accessories in the world. Madonna paired the belt with a wedding dress...Madonna style. The dress consisted of a white corset, a layered tulle skirt with the belt around the waist. To finish off her outfit, she donned long white lace evening gloves and lace leggings. Leggings, incidentally, just like the skinny belts around the outside of the long tank tops and shirts, are also making their way back into the world of fashion.

Madonna 80s Style Belts Now
No one really knows what happened to the various belt stylings of Madonna's back in the 80s. These days, the now 50-something sticks to chic fashion trends in belts. Recently, the pop icon designed a line of corset style belts for clothing retail H&M. Reportedly, many of the different colors of belts sold out very quickly and the store is having a difficult time keeping them in stock.
Whether she is wearing corsets, "Boy Toy" belts or Jean Paul Gaultier cone bras (even decades later, those things still look dangerous!) Madonna makes headlines more for her humanitarian efforts than for her clothing. Of course, nothing slows Madonna down and the wild side of her will come out once in a while in the form of oh, a kiss with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, a book about sex or having her daughter, Lourdes, appear in her ultra-sexy Celebration video. You can take a sneak peak of the video on You Tube.
